The longest-running and best-loved craft beer festival in Alaska begins with a home brew contest, followed by a five-course, gourmet dinner with craft beer pairings.
The annual Great Alaska Craftbeer and Home Brew Festival, held each Memorial Day weekend, is a rite of spring in Haines. The “Haines Beerfest,” as its known by locals, is very popular, and tickets sell out weeks in advance. It kicks off with a gourmet dinner, paired with beer tastings.
The following day, the crowd descends on the Southeast Alaska State Fairgrounds, where craft beer and homebrew samples abound. There's also a 5K and 10K fun run. Stay in local hotels, private cabins, B&Bs, or camp!
Where to stay
Most of the places near this event are reserved in advance, so book early enough to avoid paying the highest prices or, worse yet, not having a place to stay.
