Starts in 41 days. Over 6 million attendees.
Oktoberfest Munich (Wiesn), the world's largest beer festival. Held annually in Germany, it runs for 16 - 18 days from late September to early October attracting over 6 millions of global visitors for the vibrant celebrations of the Bavarian culture.
"Wiesn" is the local Bavarian term for the Theresienwiese, the open space in Munich, Germany, where the world-famous Oktoberfest takes place. The Theresienwiese, or "Therese's Meadow," was named in honor of Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen, whose marriage to Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria (later King Ludwig I) in 1810 was the original celebration that led to the annual Oktoberfest.
In essence, if you hear someone in Munich say they're going to the "Wiesn," they're referring to the Oktoberfest itself or the grounds where it's held.
